Talkback Classroom: Australia Malaysia Forum for Secondary Students.
The Australian High Commission Malaysia was buzzing with excitement as 37 Malaysian secondary students from various public schools in the country competed for two spots to participate in project called Talkback Classroom Forum.
These students, selected by their teachers and accompanied by their parents, attended a briefing session and selection interviews conducted by Mr Stephen Cutting, the founder of this unique program and Mr Thomas Meyer, a 2004 participant.
Two Malaysian students will team up with two Australian students to take part in a two-week learning journey in Malaysia and Australia and interview leaders in education in both countries.
The Talkback Classroom program provides an opportunity for students in Australia and partner countries around the world to discuss issues with leading decision makers in interviews recorded for broadcast. Since its inception in 2001, participants of this Forum has been given opportunities to undertake research into issues of national and international significance. The theme for this year’s Australia-Malaysia Talkback Classroom is on ‘Education in the 21st Century’ to highlight the strong and enduring education relationship between both countries. Students also get to learn and practice interview skills, leading up to a forum that is then recorded and broadcast in Australia and Malaysia.
