ACT LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ELECTION

ACT electors visiting or residing overseas are advised that the ACT Legislative Assembly election has been announced for Saturday, 18 October 2008.
Information about the election can be found on the website of the ACT Electoral Commission.
Postal voting services will be available through the ACT Electoral Commission (ACTEC) website for Australians overseas who are eligible to vote in this election. Postal vote applications are available on the ACTEC website. If internet access is not available, electors may obtain copies from any Australian Embassy, High Commission, Consulate-General or Consulate overseas or by contacting the ACT Electoral Commission on + 61 2 6205 0033 or email: elections@act.gov.au . Electors should fax their completed applications directly to the ACTEC on fax number +61 2 6205 0382.
ACTEC advises that persons registered as a General Postal Voter do not need to apply for a postal vote. Postal voting material will automatically be sent to the nominated address of the General Postal Voter on 29 September 2008. Voters wishing to confirm whether they are registered as a General Postal Voter can contact the Australian Electoral Commission by email: info@aec.gov.au, or by telephone: +61 2 6271 4411.
Voters may apply for postal votes now. Postal voting material will be mailed on 29 September 2008 for applications received before that date and thereafter it will be mailed on the next business day. Postal Vote Applications for a postal address overseas must be received by Elections ACT by 10 October 2008. Applications that require ballot papers to be posted to an address within Australia must be received by Elections ACT by 16 October 2008. Completed postal vote material must be returned to the Elections ACT address:

In order to be admitted to the count, completed postal vote material must be post-marked no later than Friday 17 October 2008 and must reach Elections ACT by 5pm on 24 October 2008.
