Media Relations Officer
Applications are invited for the position of Media Relations Officer within the Australian High Commission.
The successful applicant will be responsible for news monitoring for the High Commission, and managing the High Commission’s publicity program and its relationship with local media.
The work can be demanding and requires the successful applicant to be well-organised and motivated.
The successful applicant will be required to deal extensively with the local media and Australian officials, so good communication skills are essential. The successful applicant will demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in the work they undertake, which will also include assisting the High Commission’s Political and Economic Section as required.
Duties will include:
- advising on media strategies
- monitoring and reporting on local news and media trends
- drafting and distributing press releases
- maintaining and developing the High Commission’s network of media contacts
- managing enquiries from local and international media
- managing media events, visit programs and exchanges, and the media aspects of high-level visits
- research and other duties on behalf of the Political/Economic Section, as required.
Selection Criteria: - A tertiary degree and work experience in media and/or public relations activities
- In-depth knowledge of the operations of the Malaysian media industry
- Knowledge about Malaysia’s general economy, society and politics would be an added advantage
- Ability to manage publicity for events and major visits
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Demonstrated ability to communicate in Bahasa Malaysia.
- Good knowledge of the internet and well-developed computer skills.
- Self-starter and ability to work as part of a team.
Salary level will be determined subject to the successful candidate’s skills and experience. The salary range will be between RM3825 – RM5737 per month plus two (2) months contractual bonus and other benefits. The successful applicant must be able to start immediately.
